Tom Petherick: The Organic Path

In July of 2009 Cholwell will become fully certified under the Demeter certification body which certifies biodynamic farms. We will then be duty bound to "be biodynamic".

What does this mean? The basis of biodynamics is good organic practice. More than this is the importance of establishing a relationship with the wider cosmos in order to allow the unseen in.

In order to progress this relationship the instigator of biodynamic farming, Rudolf Steiner, indicated the need to use various healing herbs in order to enhance the relationship between the cosmic and terrestrial.

After two years of biodynamic practice here it has become quite clear that growing plants biodynamically gives the plant the chance to grow at its optimum.

The garden and farm at Cholwell is a trial ground for our organic and now particularly biodynamic experiments as well as being very productive. Most of the produce is consumed by us although there is some surplus for sale from time to time.
